Committee
Warlukurlangu Artists is an Aboriginal owned and governed corporation. The governing committee is comprised of eight male and eight female artists who represent all the skin groups in Yuendumu. The committee hold regular meetings at the art centre where they discuss business and develop policy together with the management. These meetings are generally open to all the membership.
A large number of artists can be found on any given day painting on the verandah of the art centre and at least 50% of committee members can be found amongst them. This means that the committee and all members are aware of all aspects of the day to day running of the art centre, they see everyone who goes in and out as well as every painting that is made and sold.
Over the years the Warlukurlangu committee has regularly participated in governance training, most recently in late 2006 and early 2007, helping to strengthen their sense of ownership and participaton in decision making.
Several Warlukurlangu Artists have also over the years been on the committee of Desart, the lobby organisation for Central Desert Aboriginal owned art centres. Andrea Nungarrayi Martin served on the Desart committee for many years and at the moment Tess Napaljarri Ross is on the Desart committee and often travels to other art centres for meetings and to share information.
