Volunteers
Would you like to contribute your time to Warlukurlangu Artists?
Warlukurlangu has had many fantastic volunteers in the past. Whatever your skills, if you would like to work with us for a week, a month, or even a year, please don't hesitate to contact us.
Warlukurlangu has also hosted many researchers who have come to the art centre to look at archives and or speak to the artists as part of their research projects.
Volunteer duties include: mixing paints, preparing canvas, stretching, priming, giving out canvas to artists, photographing completed artworks, hanging art in the exhibition space, helping to make sure the artists are happy while painting and taking care of their needs, cross referencing artworks against catalogue numbers to make sure everything is in the computer system, making artists lunch and morning tea, filing certificates, pricing craft and generally keeping the office and gallery space clean and tidy.
Let us know if you have any special skills that we can put to good use. There is always something to do.
Volunteering is an unpaid activity, however, accomodation is provided for free.
Volunteers must provide their own food during their stay. A sandwich is provided for lunch during weekdays. We encourage you to shop in Alice Springs as it is much cheaper than at any of the stores in Yuendumu. Old, discreet and culturally sensitive clothing is recommended, clothes that you don't mind getting paint on.
We are very flexible with the length of your stay, volunteers stay anywhere between 2 days to three months. If you can't volunteer and want to visit the art centre we are more than happy for you to come for a day.
There is a bush bus that comes in and out between Alice and Yuendumu twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays and returns to Alice the same day. The trip takes approximately 5 hours as there are lots of stops. The bus leaves Alice at 7:00 am and they will usually pick you up. You need to call and book a seat (T: 08 - 8953 0127) and the trip costs $80 each way.
